# How to let an AI agent sign in to Google without a lockout

## What happened

One of our agents needed to sign in to a Google account from our server. The first try failed, so it tried again, and again: 3 tries in 2 minutes. To Google, fast repeat sign-ins from a data center look like someone breaking in. Google locked the account, and a person had to recover it.

## What we did

1. One try per sign-in.
2. A second try has to change something concrete, like the sign-in method or a fresh code. Never the same try again.
3. No more than 2 failed tries in 6 hours on one site and account. After that, a person takes over.
4. Every try is written down first (which site, which account, which method, the result), and a check refuses the try if the limit is already hit.

## How we know it worked

No account has been locked since the rule went in on Oct 2.

## What you can take from it

If an agent signs in for you, give it one try and a written limit. Retrying fast is what gets accounts locked.
